Wyrdfire

Hordes of the Draugr

The fire is life.

Every night, the dead of Hvítmýrr rise from their graves. Swing the axe yourself, combine runes into your own build and keep the fire burning until dawn. At midnight, the Draugr‑king leaves his mound.

In the white marsh of Hvítmýrr, the dead do not rest. Every night they climb out of their graves and the old burial mounds, and every night Bjorn of the clan stands in the clearing with an axe, a fire and whatever help the ancestors can send.

Hold out until dawn. If you dare, bring down the king who sleeps beneath the mound.

Wyrdfire is an action roguelite against hordes of the dead, where every swing is yours.

Combat in your hands

The axe

  • A three-strike combo, a charged blow that cracks the ground, and a shoulder-dodge that shoves the dead aside.
  • Weight in every swing: the brief freeze on impact, the knockback and the crunch of old bones.
  • Auto-attack and aim assist are there if you want them, and off by default.

Breaths, not a health bar

Your life is split into breaths. The fire heals the breath you are on, but a lost breath is gone for the rest of the night.

And the night leaves its mark on Bjorn: a torn cape, frost in his beard, cracks in his mail.

One night, five watches

Every run is one night, from dusk to dawn. The horde swells into peaks and pulls back into calms, and in the calms the ancestors send their gifts.

Runes of the old futhark

Gather the embers of the fallen to grow stronger through the night, and choose runes from five paths. No two nights make the same warrior.

The Axe

Cuts that bleed, critical strikes and blows that echo.

The Fire

A burning axe, and fire that spreads and bursts.

The Thunder

White-hot thunder that leaps between foes and stuns for a heartbeat.

The Fury

The charged blow, the shoulder-dodge and the blood of the bear.

The Fortune

More embers, more luck and better offers.

Raise a rune to its highest grade, pair it with a rune from another path, and a new power awakens.

The dead of Hvítmýrr

Hundreds of them at once. And not all of them are dead.

Draugr

The restless dead of the marsh. Slow, stubborn and many.

The lesser dead

They pour out of the graves by the hundred and break with a single blow.

Wolves

They hunt in packs of three and circle before they lunge.

The shield wall

Shields that march as one. A charged blow splits the wood.

Bersi's archers

Living men, and worse than the dead. An amber line shows where the arrow will fly.

Trolls

Huge, slow and thick-skinned. They hate fire.

The Mara

The nightmare that lands on your chest. Shoulder her off before she takes your breath.

The elites

Bigger and colder, rimmed with frost. They guard the best rewards of the night.

The Draugr‑king

He wakes at midnight with his great sword, a ring of frost and the voice that raises the graves. Survive until dawn and he returns to his mound. Bring him down, and what he guarded is yours.

Between the nights

Between one night and the next, return to the clan's hall: forge new weapons, talk with your people and follow a saga that moves on even when you fall.

Being built for Early Access

At a glance

  • Hands-on axe combat against hundreds of the dead at once.
  • Breaths instead of a health bar, and a fire you must keep alive.
  • Runes from five paths, hidden powers that awaken when you combine them, and gifts from the ancestors.
  • Every night ends one of three ways: you fall, the king escapes at dawn, or the king falls.
  • An ink-lined, painterly look and a cold Norse night.
  • Made to be played with a controller, and with Steam Deck in mind.
